[edit] Wikipedia:Hutchinson Encyclopedia topics

Hi! When I was attempting to remove some of the redirected items from this list, it turned out you had managed to get in one moment earlier to do some routine pruning, which confounded me with an edit conflict. Would you like to take over the task of doing this job, to save duplication of effort and unnecessary frustration in future? :-) Or perhaps schedule the pruning task every few hours or so?

Good to see you've been busily chopping away at the list. We can probably finish the rest of the redirects quite quickly, since the breadth of the Hutchinson Encyclopedia is hardly monumental. Most of the redlinked topics would be presumably duplicated in Wikipedia.

BTW, looking at your collection of online bookmarks, I wonder if you have heard of (or maybe even joined) Distributed Proofreaders, the network of volunteers who prepare the texts that are submitted to Project Gutenberg for online release. In the proofreading process, you get to read about things that you probably would not encounter in print everyday, though Wikipedia definitely has far greater and wider opportunities for esoteric adventure if that is what piques your curiosity. --Defrosted 09:11, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

Don't worry at all - the edit conflict was a symptom of overenthusiasm on both sides and didn't cause any real trouble. Please continue deleting bluelinks whenever you deem it appropriate to do so. I don't do blanket pruning and only remove items if they fall within my own sphere of interest or knowledge and if I can verify with certainty the correctness of the redirect.--Defrosted 10:06, 28 July 2005 (UTC)

Hi Joel, I am the cousin of Marc Ramsden. I wrote a brief article that focuses on his military time in Israel. I noticed you flagged it for review as being bias towards Israel. Also you asked for documentation regarding the incident writen. I have a copy of a document that describes the event. Its in Hebrew and also has a number of blackout on text for security reasons, I personally have not seen a non-censored version but the event is indeed ligit. I could scan it and show it to you or post it somewhere.... Unfortunatly my cousin recently died from luekemia and the article is in part a tribute to his memory. While he was an effective soilder he also was the most compassionate person I have ever known. If you feel the article is bias please suggest how it can be re-done to be both acurate and balance. thank you David Ramsden mdrtec@mdrtec.com

I changed the article with a citation of http://www.lib.utulsa.edu/speccoll/unmuzox0.htm And I also added stuff that I know. I recently talked to Michael Andre, as he is my friend's father.

Ok, so I'm a bit confused. The Actual name of the Magazine is "Unmuzzled OX" but I blanked out the page accidentally. So should I fill that one in, and put #REDIRECT Unmuzzled OX in the "Unmuzzled ox" one? Ironearth 18:36, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

There wasn't a need to bring this article to Wikipedia:Copyright problems, since it wasn't a copyvio in all revisions. You could have just reverted the anon back to your initial stub. In any case, I deleted the infringing revisions instead of moving the temp article in, since it was identical to what was left; it's resolved now. —Cryptic (talk) 12:56, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] redirects to nonexistant pages

I just read the speedy deletion criteria and I see what you mean. Unfortunately, I hadn't read that a month or so ago when I started making a ton of these redirects to nonexistant pages. I'm working on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Colleges and Universities project and as a first step was working on redirects, and since that always involves finding a bit out about the institution, making redirects to the correct names when they were wrong on the list. I didn't realize that a blank redirect was any worse than a normal redlink, which is where these all come from. I can stop doing it now, but there are probably over a hundred of these that I've made recently. They'll probably soon point to articles as the project goes on. I realize that it's probably not a great idea to argue with official policy, but I personally think that having a redlink with an improper title pointing to a redlink with a proper title is more useful than leaving the original improper redlink alone. Sorry - 'Mia Culpa' - Lead is correct except for The Simple Past Tense and the Past Participle...I bow to the greater authority of the OED ...
