The 1971 Calder Cup Playoffs of the American Hockey League began on April 7, 1971.[1] The six teams that qualified played best-of-7 series in the first round. The winner of the series between the two division champions in the first round advanced directly to the Calder Cup Final while the other two first round winners played each other in a best-of-7 series. The winner and the team that received the bye played a best-of-7 series for the Calder Cup. The Calder Cup Final ended on May 1, 1971 with the Springfield Kings defeating the Providence Reds four games to zero to win the Calder Cup for the fourth time in Springfield history, and the only championship while the team was named the Kings.[2]
