Why is he green? He looks more like a grasshopper.

hello... how come no one mentions that Jimminy Cricket is an old slaves story bearer? Disney did not create Jimminy ( same as he did not create Mickey). Jimminy cricket is just about 300 years old. and is even mention in africa under a different name-cricket.

Jiminy is something of a counterpart to the Talking Cricket in the original Pinnochio story, thought the poor Talking Cricket was killed by the little wooden bastard early in the story and only returned as a ghost to continue to lecture Pinnochio on his wrongdoings. -- Pennyforth 15:36, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

It's important that the phrase "Jiminy Cricket!" was a euphemism for "Jesus Christ!" long before it was the name of a character in a Disney film. A fact that important should not be relegated to a Trivia section. Indeed, it's not impossible that a scriptwriter inserted the name as a way of referencing Jiminy's rather christlike function in the story, as Pinocchio's spiritual guide, whioh would make perfect sense because the Cricket character in the original novel does indeed undergo death and resurrection.

Incidentally, the origin of this phrase as a substitute for "Jesus Christ" should put an end to the silly story, often repeated, that the expression "By Jiminy" originates from an ancient Roman oath taken on the constellation Gemini! Tom129.93.17.139 18:18, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
