Jim Michaels was born on 12 September 1965 in Chicago, Illinois, to Anna Mae and Robert Michaels. He was raised in the Suburbs of Des Plaines and Arlington Heights. Michaels graduated from John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois and attended the University of Evansville and graduated with a degree in Business.

Michaels help start and ran the first in house computer grahics department at a major studio at MCA/Universal. Michaels then moved into Television production and eventaully earned his first producer stripes on the NBC series Midnight Caller for NBC starring Gary Cole. Jim's next producing assignment was Reasonable Doubts starring fellow John Hersey High School Alumus Marlee Matlin and Mark Harmon.

Some of Jim's other series have included Charlie Grace starring Mark Harmon and LeeLee Sobieski for ABC, The Guardian starring Simon Baker for CBS, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman with Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher, Odyssey 5 (Peter Weller) for Showtime and dr. Vegas (Rob Lowe and Joe Pantoliano) for CBS.

Michaels is currently a member of the Producer's Guild of America, Directors Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, American Film Institute and has guest lectered at many films schools including UCLA and NYU.

Jim is currently working with Ali LeRoi and Chris Rock Co-Executive producing the television series Everybody Hates Chris airing on the CW network.
