[edit] Nickname

Whoever keeps deleting Jeff's nickname ("Shark") listed after his middle name, please stop. I am the one who added that. Thanks GoIrish24 00:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

It's going to be removed until one finds a proper/reliable source to verify it. Sorry, I left that in an edit summary a couple of times. Please see WP:V, WP:RS, WP:Cite, and WP:OR --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  00:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Are you kidding me? Everyone knows that his nickname is "Shark". Ask anyone, they'll know that's his nickname. Stop deleting it PLEASE. GoIrish24 00:32, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll make a compromise and leave a {{fact}} tag text to the nickname. I've never heard the nickname, nor heard any news source identify him by it. If you claim that's his real nickname, a reliable source should turn up; this is a requirement by WP's policy. --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  00:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Okay that's a little bit better, but seriously, if you don't know Jeff Samardzija's nickname, then you're not a Notre Dame fan and you don't know Jeff Samardzija. I am an avid Notre Dame fan, so I should be a reliable source, and I am. GoIrish24 00:55, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

No, it doesn't quite work like that :-p. Please see WP:OR. Fans and personal accounts do not qualify as reliable sources. You can look up his ND profile or something. --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  01:48, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Doesn't matter, because I know it is a FACT that Jeff Samardzija's nickname is "Shark".

Consider yourself lucky I found a source to back up the claim. Otherwise you would have received a couple of warnings for breaking Wikipedia's policies. Also, informal nicknames do not belong in the name section of a lead, like in Michael Jordan or Muhsin Muhammad --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  02:43, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

oooo I'm scared

BTW I don't consider myself "lucky" that you found a source to back me up, because I probably know all of the players on the ND football team better than you do. And why did you delete that highlight video that was on the bottom? GoIrish24 04:48, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm not an ND fan - at least my favorite college actually knows how to win a championship within an eight-year period ;-). I'm only editing this article as a baseball fanatic. The highlight video apparently belongs to the NCAA - which currently does not allow commercial websites to publicly redistribute it's content w/o proper consent. please, please, please stop making disruptive edits --  ShadowJester07  ►Talk  04:59, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I understand, I'll stop doing "disruptive" edits. But now you bring up this: "at least my favorite college actually knows how to win a championship within an eight-year period" I find this very funny. Hey jester, try winning a national championship with coaches like Ty Willingham and Bob Davie, and with 2 and 3 star rated players! Your reasoning is oblivious! And guess who has led the same players coached by those two guys to two seasons of 9-3 and 10-3 records? A man named Charlie Weis. Guess who helped win games for the team and shattered records? Jeffrey Alan "Shark" Samardzija! So please, please, please, do not say statements such as this to me or any ND fan. Oh yes, I forgot to mention Charlie Weis' two straight top 10 recruiting classes... Jimy Clausen, James Aldridge, Duval Kamara, Armando Allen, Gary Gray, Darrin Walls, Sam Young, Konrad Reuland, Zach Frazer, Raeshon McNeil, Robert Hughes, Matt Romine, Aaron Nagel (Nagel is German for "nail"), and Mike Ragone. Ever heard of them? They're just a handful of our sophomores and incoming freshmen. Wake up man, a revolution is coming. --GoIrish24 05:15, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Just so you know, I'm not the one who re-added "Shark" to Jeff's name. --GoIrish24 03:46, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Musical Interests

Certainly doesn't belong in the article. I removed it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NyyDave (talkcontribs) 19:52, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject class rating

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot (talk) 19:18, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Salary Information

Hi all! I made a change to the salary section. Previously it said that Jeff made $16.5 million guaranteed. According to the ESPN link, however, he would make up to 16.5 million *if* the club exercised the sixth/seventh year options in his contract. I changed the wording to make it a bit more apparent, but please feel free to tweak it if it doesn't sound good. Thanks, -- Irixman (t) (m) 02:32, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ryan Hand?

I removed this:

Ryan Hand, of Boise, stated that "He really looks like he has the potential to be a big time pitcher, but he definitely needs to work on his off-speed pitches."

Who is this Ryan Hand? He has no Wikipedia article. Is he a notable commentator or is this just some Wikipedia editor adding his own personal scouting report? -Elmer Clark (talk) 13:55, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
