Jay Staggs is an American football defensive back. Staggs played DB/WR for the UNLV Rebels from 2003-2006 Son of James and Lori Staggs... Cousin Ryan Church is the starting outfielder for MLB's New York Mets .

On April 30,2007, Staggs signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears from April 30, 2007 to August 27, 2007 after competeing in the Bears 2007 Training Camp. On January 12, 2008, Staggs signed a free agent contract with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League

Staggs a four-year letterwinner at UNLV (2003-2006) appeared in 46 career games, with starts in his final 23 games played as a defensive back… Finished collegiate career with 206 tackles and 6 INTs… Was named Rebels Defensive MVP after leading team with 92 tackles and 3 INTs during senior season while starting all 12 contests en route to honorable mention All-MWC honors… Named winner of Bill "Wildcat" Morris Most Inspirational Award and "Doc" Tobler Senior Award during team’s postseason award ceremony… Competed in inaugural Texas vs. The Nation college football all-star game, recording 7 tackles with a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a PBU… Started at safety during all 10 games played as a junior finishing 4th on team with 71 tackles, including 2 TFLs… Added 6 PBUs and 1 interception as well as forcing and recovering a fumble... Played in all 11 games, including making his first career start at strong safety in season finale while tying for team lead with 2 INTs during sophomore season, adding 24 tackles, including a sack… Played as a true freshman and competed in 12 games finishing with 19 total tackles… Majored in sociology…
