Talk:James Thompson (fighter)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The section under the heading "Elite XC" has a biased tone and is inaccurate. I justed watched this fight, and the referee was not biased and did not favor Slice. The writer claims that the fight was stopped when Thompson's cauliflower ear burst. This isn't correct. Rather, the ref let it go on for several more seconds, during which Slice pounded Thompson into semi-consciousness. Slice obviously[citation needed] would have only continued to hurt Thompson; thus the decision seemed justified to me. Also, the crowd wasn't booing; the reaction was admittedly mixed, but it was not exactly a unified chorus of boos. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.193.160.85 (talk) 04:28, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
The entire article is just one long apology for Thompson's spotty record. It's either an "unfair" or "disputed" loss or it's "unlucky." I think this actually does a disservice to Thompson who is a kind of "gatekeeper" fighter that everyone has to pass through to get to the next level. There's nothing wrong with that...he's earning his money. He's kind of like Keith Jardine in this respect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.80.60.230 (talk) 18:19, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree with you. The section was cleaned up somewhat, but the writer still obviously shows a bias towards Thompson. For example, he/she deleted the edit I put in last night about how the referee actually did NOT stop the fight immediately after the cauliflower ear episode, but let it go on for a little while, during which time Slice definitively ended the bout by clearly incapacitating Thompson. Also, the writer(s) emphasized the fact that the referee didn't stop the bout near the end of the second round when Thompson had Slice in a dangerous spot. This is true, but he should NOT have stopped it then, as Slice was only at a disadvantage and was not seriously hurt. I'm wondering if I should try to edit again, or if this Thompson partisan is just going to keep changing it back. :( —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.193.160.85 (talk) 04:19, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
