James Hugh Joseph Tate

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James Hugh Joseph Tate (1910 - 1983) was a U.S. political figure. He served as the mayor of Philadelphia between 1962 and 1972, having reached that office (moving up from president of City Council) when Richardson Dilworth resigned to make his unsuccessful run for Governor. Tate was elected to full terms in 1963 and 1967. In Tate's successful re-election bid in 1967, he defeated Arlen Spector, who was District Attorney at the time. Spector later went on to be elected to the U.S. Senate.
