Edward Shippen

Edward Shippen (b. 1639, Hillham, Cheshire, England; d. August 1712, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was the second mayor of Philadelphia, from 1701 to 1703. He was also a leader of the Province of Pennsylvania, including serving as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1699.

One grandchild was Continental Congressman William Shippen; another was wife of Philadelphia Mayor Charles Willing, whose daughter was Mary Willing Byrd; and another, also Edward Shippen, was also a mayor of Philadelphia. A great-great-granddaughter was Peggy Shippen, wife of Benedict Arnold.
