[edit] Real Name

anyone know J's real name?

It's "Joe". Don't have a source though. Oystermind 04:02, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ethnic background

J looks like he is Italian, anyone know his background?

he's jewish, i believe

not jewish - Italian Arleach (talk) 02:25, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] better picture

please, i beg you.

That's jes what he looks like :) Maybe a pre-blond photo mid-article? Yes or no? Oystermind 04:03, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Expansion

When a musician has done nearly all his significant work as part of a particular band, it's likely that that work will mostly be discussed in the band's article. I'm not sure the expansion tag is really justified here--I'm not sure that it's even fair to describe this as a "stub". If I'm wrong, feel free to expand this article with non-Dinosaur Jr.-related J Mascis info. Nareek 17:17, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

This is a moronic comment. Ive just finished reading an article on Alexa Chung that's about twice as long! Clearly Mascis is vastly more important than she is. He was crucial in the development of grunge, is one of the finest electric guitarists in indie music in the last 20 years and has had very great influence on its development: even if hes less famous than he should be, his influence on others is so great that that we really must expand this very thin article as soon as possible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.104.223.190 (talk) 23:19, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] uma thurman

i wonder if there exist reliable ressources concerning a love affair between uma thurman and j mascis... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.167.5.31 (talk) 19:30, 22 February 2007 (UTC).

That was a joke on "1991: The Year Punk Broke." Kim (of Sonic Youth) was interviewing J and asked what Amherst was like since Uma left. J then went on to talk about the apathetic nature of the townsfolk since her departure, but said he was coping with it or something to that affect. He also hates the thought of skydiving despite what "Free So Free" said, that was made up by the biographer.

[edit] Berlin?

The article says his wife is from Berlin. Berlin, Germany, or Berlin, Massachusetts? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.55.200.20 (talk) 14:53, 27 February 2007 (UTC).

Definitely Berlin, Germany as Phillipp, her brother, is a German film director.

[edit] depression?

I wonder, if Mascis is that fat because he is taking antidepressive medication because of a serious clinical depressive disorder... any information about it? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.167.61.43 (talk) 22:17, 5 March 2007 (UTC).

I have heard that J. has some form of asperengers (sp?).--Readytodie 20:34, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah mean aspergers but J's weight gain is probably down to nothing more than the aging process.
