"iWanna Stay With Spencer" is the fifth episode of the television show iCarly. It first aired on Nickelodeon on September 29, 2007.
[edit] Plot
Carly and Sam are shooting an episode of iCarly, and end the episode by presenting Spencer's latest sculpture: a fan of hammers (literally an electric fan with hammers for blades.) Spencer switches on the device, only to have it go out of control and fling one of the hammers at Carly's head. Carly ducks just in time, and the hammer hits the wall behind her.
Carly's grandfather shows up unexpectedly from Yakama the next day to visit Carly and Spencer, apparently having met Freddie ("lives right down the hall!") and Sam ("[she] stole $10 from [him] and ate [his] sandwich") before. He then gives Carly a $30 gift certificate for a place called "Groovy Smoothies", and lets her leave to spend with her friends almost immediately. As it turns out, Spencer's grandfather is incredibly concerned about the "fan of hammers" incident, and calls Spencer out for being irresponsible with raising Carly (pointing out that he just let her leave with her friends and not telling her when to come back.) Spencer counterpoints that Groovy Smoothies is right across the street, that Carly has two friends with her as well as her cell phone. Apparently, Grandpa Shay still hold a bit of resentment from when Spencer dropped out of law school, and says that Carly would be better off living in Yakama with him. This news immediately shocks Spencer.
Carly comes home a half-hour later, having brought a smoothie back for Spencer. Spencer attempts to scold Carly in an adult-like manner, but can't go through with it (Carly is not taking him seriously), and tells Carly the bad news. Carly is dismayed, and the next day her grandfather shows up to finalize the arrangement (having gotten permission from Carly's father). Despite Spencer's best attempts, he looks ridiculous in the incredibly-small suit he had worn to look adult (His necktie is actually tied like a bowtie,) and still acts like a klutz.
The next day, Carly clears out her locker, and decides that she should do something awful so that Spencer will yell at her and look responsible in the process. Carly invites her grandfather to dinner that night (causing him to come for Carly earlier than expected, unaware of what will happen next,) and Carly shows up a few minutes later. She is initionally unrecognizable, having "reinvented" herself as a punk complete with multiple fake piercings. Spencer is shocked, but complements Carly on her new appearance; later he explains to his grandfather that, while he doesn't like Carly's new appearance, he believes children should always be allowed to express themselves. Spencer and his grandfather start arguing, unaware that the chicken stir-fry Spencer had been making for dinner had caught fire until Carly points it out. Spencer ineffectively tries to extinguish the flames with a broom, while his grandfather calls 9-1-1. The grandfather escapes while Spencer carries Carly out the door over his shoulder.
Everyone is gathered in the lobby, and the firemen report that the damage is minimal, if not nonexistent. Later, Carly finishes packing her things, and Spencer gives his grandpa an extensive list of Carly's multiple allergies, favorite foods, necessary vitamins, as well as the number for a good tutor in Carly's worst subject, science. While Spencer's grandfather is obviously impressed by this display of responsibility, it is not enough to change his mind. Carly says goodbye to Sam, who is obviously upset not only over the loss of her best friend but also over the loss of her only scapegoat. Freddie, having a huge crush on Carly, is obviously upset, grabbing Carly's leg and sobbing in a last-ditch effort to prevent her leaving. The four walk down to the lobby (Spencer stays behind, having already said goodbye to Carly privately.) As Carly, her grandfather and her friends make their way downstairs, Spencer realizes at the last moment that he had forgotten something crucial, and rushes downstairs with it.
Spencer makes it to the lobby just in time, and hands his grandfather Carly's asthma inhaler which had not been necessary since Carly was seven years old. Spencer had been saving it for the past six or seven years, just in case it was necessary in the future. Carly's grandfather is incredibly impressed that Spencer had been so responsible (as most anyone else would've gotten rid of it after one or two years), and decides that Carly would do best in Spencer's care. The episode ends with Carly, Spencer, Grandpa Shay, Sam and Freddie making complete fools out of themselves, and enjoying doing so.
