[edit] Notability

This player plays for a professional football club and has been in a national squad. This is enough to establish notabilty, and more than enough to get past speedy deletion criteria. Phil Bridger (talk) 21:16, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

And since when has Reuters not been a reliable source? Phil Bridger (talk) 21:34, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
That's not the point. The subject is not noteworthy. Just being on a professional sports team doesn't make one noteworthy, and just being listed in a newspaper doesn't make one noteworthy.--Mumia-w-18 (talk) 21:49, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, but the consensus is well established that playing for a professional football team does establish notability, and being in the national squad establishes much greater notability. Phil Bridger (talk) 21:54, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

My impression was that professional doesn't necessarily equal notable, but playing for a team in the top division in any national league is enough for notability in pretty much any sport. I placed the original speedy tag for lack of context, but I agree that it should be kept now. I've added the appropriate stub tag. --Finngall talk 08:46, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
