The Literal translation of the word Ismail is like "Heard by Allah or God has heard", referring to the fact that he was a child very-sought-after by Ibrahim and his wife princess Sa'ra (Her mother Hadjera/Hagar was the handmaid of the princess) and through Ismai'l the fountain Zamzam(? check spelling)gave birth to the city of Mecca, Al-baladil Ameen(?). Moreover, Muhammad(Sallu wa Taslim) is a descendant of Ismai'l(Alaihissalam), which fuliflled the divine promise by Allah to himself to send Muhammad as the final and global messenger with Q'urAn.
So, the word refers to fulfillment of divine promises as a token of the prayer being heard(?Learned men! please check). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.168.238.114 (talk) 05:27, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
