Ira H. Abbott was a director of Aeronautical and Space Research at the (United States of America) National Aeronautics and Space Administration during the middle of the twentieth century, and before that was employed by the (USA) National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. He is co-author (with Albert E. von Doenhoff) of the reference book Theory of Wing Sections, including a summary of airfoil data first published in 1949. He lived in Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA, when the book was published.
