[edit] History
Investors Chronicle started life in 1860 as the weekly Money Market Review. In 1914, it merged with the Investor's Chronicle and Journal of Finance, started in the 1890s. Then in 1928, publication of the amalgamated title was taken over by Brendan Bracken - the man behind the modern Financial Times. In 1967, Investors Chronicle merged again, this time with the Stock Exchange Gazette. And in 1978, it re-established its connection with the Financial Times, by becoming part of the FT Group. It has been part of the group ever since, and is now published by FT Business, the financial magazine division of FT Group, which is owned by Pearson plc.
[edit] Content
Investors Chronicle is edited by Oliver Ralph and has a staff of 30 journalists.[citation needed] The magazine focuses on coverage of companies in the FTSE 100, 250, 350 and 500 companies as well as companies listed on AIM. Each story ends with a recommendation (for example, buy or sell) of what action investors should take as a result of the news or change in valuation reported.
Investors Chronicle produces several supplements, including Money Planner focusing on personal Finance issues, Buyers Guide focusing on the best performing financial products, and Masterclass, which provides information about investment strategies.
The magazine also has an awards issue. Like other industry awards, the Investors Chronicle Investment Awards are based on the results of a reader poll and awards are granted to stockbrokers and other product and service providers. Since 2007 the company also provides AIM Investment Awards to companies and advisors on the Alternative Investment Market. This awards are granted on the advise of a panel of institutional investors and readers of the magazine.
[edit] Readership
Investors Chronicle claims an audited circulation of nearly 35,000 private investors.
[edit] Online
Investors Chronicle launched its first online services in 1996.[citation needed] Its most recent redesign was launched in May 2007. The company's current website contains news, analysis, financial data on companies listed in the UK markets.[citation needed] and real-time updates on the Investors Chronicle share portfolio. The magazine also provides IC Desktop Alerts, a free news feed service.
[edit] Events
Investors Chronicle runs national UK roadshows in May and November comprising investors, educational presentations and companies selling investment services.
