[edit] Modified Fischer Nomencalture

I modified the text to conform to the modified Fischer nomenclature of the ICA, introduced by Bouthillier et al 1996 (see references). This involved moving some of the text around and introducing some segments.

I also removed the following:

    • Uncal artery
    • Meningeal branch - helps supply blood to meninges

As these are not, in my opinion, supported by the references listed, truly named branches of the ICA. The meningeal branches, I think, are equivalent to the capsular branches and other small unamed branches of the ICA, the uncal artery is more correctly a branch the middle cerebral artery.Felgerkarb 20:13, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Clarification: There are named meningeal branches (i.e. middle meningeal artery, posterior meningeal artery, etc) that feed the meninges, but these are not branches of the internal carotid artery normally. The meningohypophyseal trunk can supply branches to the meninges, including the tentorial branches named in the text.Felgerkarb
