[edit] Usage

The infobox may be added by copying and pasting the template as shown below into an article and then filling in the desired fields.

{{Infobox NZ school
|name =
|badge =
|motto =
|type = <!-- State,Private  Boys,Girls,Co-educational  Primary,Intermediate,Secondary  with boarding facilities-->
|established =
|address =
|coordinates = <!-- {{coord|-xx|yy|display=inline,title}} -->
|principal =
|head_label = <!-- if other than Principal -->
|roll =
|decile =
|MOE =
|homepage =
}}

[edit] Coordinates

For coordinates, use {{coord}} with display=inline,title. Please do not be overly precise.

[edit] Microformat

The HTML mark up produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the place-name and location parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue article across Wikipedia, or via a browser tool operated by a person, to (for example) add the subject to an address book. Within the hCard is a Geo microformat, which additionally makes the coordinates (latitude & longitude) parsable, so that they can be, say, looked up on a map, or downloaded to a GPS unit. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

hCard uses HTML classes including:

  • "adr"
  • "county-name"
  • "fn"
  • "label"
  • "locality"
  • "nickname"
  • "note"
  • "org"
  • "region"
  • "street-address"
  • "vcard"

Geo is produced by calling {{coord}}, and uses HTML classes:

  • "geo"
  • "latitude"
  • "longitude"

Please do not rename or remove these classes.

When giving coordinates, please don't be overly precise.

[edit] Principal

If the head of the school is not called a Principal, but something else, eg a Headmaster, add "head_label = Headmaster" to the infobox. If the head_label field is left blank, it will default to "Principal". The name of the school head still goes in the "principal" field; this just alters the display of the title.
