[edit] 2007 Elections
In the elections 2007 Greg Ballard defeated two-term Democratic incumbent, Bart Peterson, to become the next mayor of Indianapolis. The race which the Indianapolis Star claims "stunned Indiana political circles" [1] puts a Republican in charge of Indiana's largest city after eight years of Democrat leadership. In Terre Haute Duke Bennett won the mayor's race with 50.4 percent of the vote, making him the first Republican mayor in 40 years.[2]
