Ilkka Laitinen

Ilkka Laitinen is a Finnish politician currently serving as the Executive Director of the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union or Frontex, the European Union's border protection agency.

He was born in Nurmes on 22 August 1962. He has served in the Finnish Border Guard in 1982 and since 1985. He rose to the rank of colonel in 2004 and has held a wide variety of national and EU jobs. He was appointed as the first head of Frontex on May 25, 2005.
