Igor is the hunchback assistant of Dr. Frankenstein.
[edit] Origin
-
The Character originated as "Ygor" (played by Bela Lugosi in the 1939 film Son of Frankenstein), a former blacksmith tried and executed for body-snatching but who had survived his own hanging, and has been in Dracula movies and most recently Van Helsing. There is a possible cartoon movie called Igor coming out.
[edit] A New Twist
In Young Frankenstein, which is a parody of the Frankenstein/Horror genre, the character is simply pronounced "eye-gor" and is the lab assistant Herr Falkstein assigned to Dr. Frankenstein (apparantly both of their grandfathers knew each other).
[edit] Musical
In the musical Herr Falkstein is not present. Other than that most of the character remains the same.
