Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension (ドラゴンボールZ ハイパー ディメンション Doragon Bōru Zetto Haipā Dimenshon?) is the last Dragon Ball Z fighting game released for the Super Famicom in Japan and Super Nintendo in Europe. The game features a story mode that begins from the Freeza Saga and ends at the Buu Saga, although this mode was omitted from the European French language version, with no official reason given for that choice, though it is believed to be due to unfinished translation before the release.

[edit] Gameplay

Each character has a desperate move, executable while the player's "life bar" is flashing (80 life or below). For example: In Goku's desperate move, he powers up, Shunkan-Idôs in front of the opponent, does a combo, turns Super Saiyan 3 and uses the Ryū-ken. The opponent, now helpless in the air, is finished with a Genki Dama.

Some of the stages you fight in are multi-tier, requiring a certain combo to knock your opponent to another screen, whether it be up (sky, Kami-sama's Palace), to the side, or down.

The character can also do background attacks and replenish their health.

[edit] Story mode

The story mode starts off with Piccolo fighting Freeza in the Freeza Saga and ends in the Buu Saga. The game's story mode similar to that of the anime. The only difference is when you fight an enemy in story mode, for some characters, and they lose, the game continues. But for some characters, usually Son Goku or Son Gohan, they die and have to be revived using a Senzu Bean (a credit). Also, the story mode is not like other fighting games such as Street Fighter, Tekken, or Mortal Kombat where when you choose a character it only focuses on that character. Hyper Dimension starts with focus on one character and ends with a different character's focus. The story mode is also quite inaccurate to the true story; mostly because of the lack of characters at the different events in time. Examples include Piccolo fighting Freeza in his final form and Goku being the one to defeat Cell at Super Saiyan 2.

[edit] Versus mode

Versus mode allows a player to fight a computer-controlled character, or two human players to fight each other.

[edit] Tournament mode

The Tournament mode allows up to eight players to compete against each other, or computer-controlled characters, similar to the previous Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden series.

[edit] Practice mode

Practice mode allows a player to fight a player-controlled character, but no damage is dealt. This mode is useful for mastering combos or the fundamental controls of the game.

[edit] Option mode

Used to listen to BGM and sound effects. Although the Story mode is not included in the French version, the BGM tracks related to that mode can still be heard here.
