Talk:Human Awareness Institute

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A previous version claimed that the Rick A Ross foundation (http://www.rickross.com) classified the Human Awareness Institute as a "LGAT" provider, and elaborated with descriptions of LGATs, then rather subjectively summarized (and linked to) a thread on an open unmoderated discussion forum on that website as its only reference that actually mentioned this wikipedia topic. In fact, viewing the official Ross website, the Human Awareness Institute is not listed, and not classified as an LGAT provider, so that section was entirely based on a counterfactual mistake at best. As such, linking to the Ross website, or describing LGAT providers, is also inappropriate. Linking to an evolving online discussion thread inappropriate for a enclopedic article.

If there is a controversy regarding HAI, it needs more solid references. Until then the article should stick to facts and seek a NPOV.

[edit] Nudity/Clothing Optional Section

This section added earlier today does not appear to be from a NPOV and contains no references. I've trimmed it and made some corrections. It is possible that all of it is unverifiable, and we should consider removing it. For now I'm willing to leave it as is, but I plan to revisit it soon. ForestJay 20:27, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

I've removed thes section and added a sentence at the top of the article. ForestJay 02:51, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] love, love me do

The "loving wife", "peacefully" and other sentimentalism in this article seems out of place in a 'pedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.66.7.212 (talk) 13:40, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Agreed. The first paragraph now under "Founder" (formerly under History) appears to be a direct copy of an obituary. Both the tone and the copying are inappropriate here, and this paragraph needs extensive revision. I moved a bit of factual assertion (with reference) to the History section. Likewise, the other paragraphs appear to be copied from a newsletter; any facts from that should be paraphrased and summaried with reference link to the newsletter, rather than just being copied. Unfortunately the article is weak on good (non-web) published references. Perhaps somebody could fill in some history from one of Stan Dale's books and reference that? Or find some citable reference to the Mahatma Gandhi award (whose name is given in two formats in the current version)?
If the Stan Dale portion could be make solid enough, it could be moved to its own article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.106.26.161 (talk) 23:09, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Agreed, too. There are a number of WP:NPOV issues with the article, including some instances of passive voice. I'll help with cleanup. A separate article for the founder is maybe a good idea; there's a lot of info about him here, but is he WP:N? Mattymatt (talk) 04:30, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually, now that I look at it, there's a lot of non-relevant detail in the founder's section. I'm removing most of it, as it doesn't relate to the workshop and is not cited. Mattymatt (talk) 04:46, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Founder's Degree

Can anybody identify what the "DHS" after the founder's name stands for? I'm guessing it should be DHSc, but can't be sure. Mattymatt (talk) 04:25, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ghandi Award

The article currently cites two different similarly-named awards that the founder received -- the "Mahatma Gandhi Peace Medallion" and the "Mahatma Gandhi Humanitarian of the Year award." Although there exist no awards with exactly those titles, I think it's safe to assume that it was the "Gandhi Peace Award" that he received, since it seems to be the only award named after Gandhi that does not have a strict accounting of recipients.
