Hudson River Day Line Steamer New York; from a c. 1908 postcard. Completed in 1887, its iron hull measured 300 feet in length to accommodate 1,500 passengers. It was claimed to be one of the fastest in the world. New York was destroyed by fire in 1908 while undergoing minor repairs after colliding with a tug in New York harbor.
