Presumably also related: the Filipino surname Cojuangco, maiden name of Corazon Aquino. Does anyone have a good citation on this? -- Jmabel | Talk 06:31, Apr 10, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Substantive changes, no citation

Substantive anonymous changes, no citation. Looks plausible, and what was here before was not well cited either, so I am leaving it, but sources would sure be nice. -- Jmabel | Talk 06:15, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] inconsistencies with "Wong"

Hi folks-

I've noticed a few inconsistencies between our descriptions on our family name Wong and Huang. for example, under Huang, it is stated as the seventh most common name, whereas in Wong it is identified as the fourth. I'd like to just suggest that we indicate our family name as among the top seven (or top 10 common surnames)?

I'm also thinking that we should roll it all into one. ie. Link Wong to Huang ... so that all research and information need only be prepared once, and this way, will be consistent and will clearly identify all Wongs as being the same as Huang.

[edit] "Wong" can be anyone of three Chinese surnames

There are no inconsistencies. There are three different (unrelated) Chinese surnames which are pronounced as 'WONG' in Cantonese- in Mandarin, they are WANG2 王, HUANG2 黄, and WANG1 汪

The first two are common Chinese surnames- WANG2 王 is the 2nd largest (Not the fourth) Chinese surname, HUANG2 黄 is the 7th (used to be the 8th), WANG1 汪 is a less common one.

People who do not read or write Chinese often confuse between these surnames (especially the first two).

WONG cannot be considered as one Chinese surname because my Wong may not be your Wong, and his Wong may not be the other's Wong.
