Talk:Homebrew (video games)

Why is there a small amount of information on the Sega Saturn? The article claims to have a main site in Denmark but it isn't listed.

[edit] Third generation?
Why was the section covering the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 titled "Third-generation"? Those consoles are supposed to be seventh generation consoles. I've changed it to reflect that.--Fragman52 (talk) 11:43, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Dreamcast
Why no information about Dreamcast? It's been one of the most popular legal homebrew platforms in recent history. —preceding unsigned comment by 12.208.7.22 (talk • contribs)
- "Today, the most frequently used platforms for homebrew development are Atari 2600, NES, Game Boy Advance, and Dreamcast."
- First line, second paragraph. —preceding unsigned comment by Dub-c (talk • contribs)
- Well obviously if the user in question added it by themselves =) Anyway, if you read the article, you see that it doesn't really talk much about Dreamcast homebrews itself; The reason was that I (who wrote most of the stuff in the article) am not very well aware of most of intricacies of DC homebrew scene. I admit it's a big omission though; someone who knows a bit more about Dreamcast stuff should add a little bit to the article. Might be worth it. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 23:48, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Clarification on GameCube
I felt like my brief description of the change I made in the GameCube section might be misinterpreted, so here's a bit of a clarification...
The game, Phantasy Star Online, for the GameCube, was always released as a "compilation" of Episodes 1 & 2. There wasn't ever a GameCube title that was simply "Phantasy Star Online," as there have been for the Dreamcast and the PC. The first GameCube PSO title was the compilation of Episodes 1 and 2. The fix was the same compilation of episodes, just that the word "Plus" was tacked on to the title.
o.o I hope I don't sound to horribly redundant when I say that, but I'm trying to make this perfectly clear.

[edit] Nintendo 64
Was there ever anything on the N64, http://www.pdroms.de/ had 37 N64 Games, and to my understanding PDRoms is mostly if not totally homebrew, so atleast some hb had been done. Anyone have info?
~DtD (NOTE: PDRoms is down, so look at this archive) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DtD (talk • contribs) 17:14, 31 March 2007 (UTC).
- There were a bunch of emulators for things like GB Mono and NES, as well as games etc. for the 64. [1] --Thaddius 23:16, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Coverage of Earlier Generations
I believe this article should be cleaned up with respect to homebrewing by generation. As it reads, there's a messy introduction that glosses over various platforms across several generations before picking up into a generation-by-generation breakdown.
Given the remarks at the head of article about the popularity of homebrewing for older systems, it seems a bit odd that the more popular homebrewing targets (e.g., Atari systems, ColecoVision, etc.) aren't remarked upon in any structured way.

[edit] Where is Homebrew Beer?
Why does the first line say something like, "the term homebrew is used only to refer to home-made video games." This is blatantly untrue. Homebrew beer has been around for a long time before videogames. I understand that it can't be included on this page, but I was very surprised to see that there was no disambiguation page for 'homebrew'. By the way, for the record, I'm not some beer loving nut who wants to know where his beer page is, I was simply trying to find information about the home brewing of beer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.178.226.12 (talk) 05:55, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, and have made an edit which attempts to clarify the etymology. Clayhalliwell (talk) 19:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Homebrewing of beer has its own article. This one (as evidenced by its title) is for the homebrew of video games only, hence the intro sentence (though I've removed the "only"). Fin©™ 20:20, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

- It wasn't an attack, it was a statement of fact. Citation: Your last edit (and your itchy trigger finger in pointing to WP:NPA). You stated in your last edit comment that "homebrewing is not a word used in the homebrew scene". This is demonstrably false. A simple Google search of "+homebrewing games" yields ~370,000 hits. Certainly not all those hits refer to video games, but more than enough do to establish the term's use in the homebrew gaming scene. Clayhalliwell (talk) 04:18, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
