[edit] Links

I removed the extern links since they've been dead for some time and are unlikely to be revived. Since UbiSoft bought all the rights to the series—and are developing HOMM5—they should have a site or page somewhere with the stuff on it. I found an official UbiSoft page with HOMM stuff on it in French, but no English versions. Can anyone else track this down? Is there such a page/site? —Frecklefoot 16:02, 22 Jan 2004 (UTC)

[edit] imagine

If they were to make new heroes game for the video game system like xbox. what type of races or frations would you think would be used, in my opinion:

1.the imperials: basically this imperialistic humans ruled by an emperor:riders, pikemen, balista, etc.

2.the elves: lots of nature or naturaly magiacal(unicorns etc) creatures.

3. the magi: like the "tower castle" in heroes 3, magicaly gifted race, genies, magi giants.

4.the wood elves: basically these neutral being, that want to balace the univers between good and evil, lots of natrual creatures:wolves, tigers etc.

5.the orcs: warrior races that is neutral: goblins, trolls, cyclopes, etc.

6. the swanp creatures: mostly overgrown lizards or animals that are sentient: gnolls, basilisks, gnolls etc.

7.the barbarians: name speaks for itself. barbarians, nomads etc.

8. the dungeon or underground: mostly creatures of evil nature: beholders, troglatytes, umber hulks etc.

9. the dark elves: counterpart of elves, ruthless, evil wanting to destroy.

10: the undead: name speaks for it self: skeletons, zombies, liches etc.

11.the demons: the name speaks for it self: imps, demons, etc?

finally 12: the "name of the country there from"(eg sirian knights) knights: these humans left the empire for a better life for the greater good: swordsman, paladins, crossbowan etc?

so, what do you think?

Personally I would like to align it in this sort of manner:, between all good, neutral, and all evil, (columns) and mostly might, mostly magic, and mixed (rows)

  • Holy Castle - Barbarian Keep - Inferno
  • Wizard Spire - Desert - Necropolis
  • Preserve - Dungeon - Dark Forest

But, of course, there are much better places to discuss this sort of thing in depth. The forums at www.celestialheavens.com remain one of the best Might and Magic communities around. -LordHoborgXVII

[edit] HoMM Online

The title of the Chinese MMORPG reported here as 'Might and Magic Online' is actually "Heroes of Might and Magic Online.' It is unclear how they will make an MMORPG of a generally strategy-oriented game, but the game is still in the early stages of production. I would make a page about it, but there is not enough information as of now. -LordHoborgXVII

[edit] Mac Port

Added reference to Freeverse's Mac port and what little available information there is now. Might need fleshing out. Included the relevant links

[edit] HoMMV Section

Should remove the section about Heroes 5 development, redirecting the effort to main HoMM5 article Heroes of Might and Magic V

-User:Valters

I agree, the HOMM5 section is attrociously written

[edit] Move page

I suggest this page be moved to Heroes of Might and Magic series since the article discusses the series and not an individual game. As part of Wikipedia:WikiProject_Strategy_games, I'm editing all strategy-related articles to use the same, common naming conventions. SharkD 01:03, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, if you want to do that, you should go to WP:RM and suggest a package move with Heroes of Might and Magic (video game) to Heroes of Might and Magic as part of the deal. I disagree with this idea, mind, but there's no point in having Heroes of Might and Magic bare be a redirect. Also, at risk of pointing out the obvious, but being the member of a Wikiproject which are all open-entry doesn't particularly mean much. SnowFire 01:16, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Suppose I should explain myself a bit further here. The longer a series gets, the more likely people will only be familiar with later games or be interested in the series as a whole when referring to the title bare. For instance, the original "Final Fantasy" game (played by a far fewer number of people than later ones) is at Final Fantasy (video game). The original Heroes sold far, far fewer copies than Heroes II, which was released fairly shortly afterwards and was a hit. Heroes III and its many spinoffs sold zillions copies more, too.
Now, I'll grant that if it's not clear which is more relevant, the original entry or the series as a whole, the article on the original is a safer thing to place at the page. But I don't think that's the case here; most people will mean the series if they type in "Heroes of Might and Magic" to the box, not the HoMM I. SnowFire 16:59, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
My point is that this article is peculiar and not like the others. Nah-nah-nah. SharkD 20:24, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, the comparison with FF is a good one, in my opinion. Although HoMM4 was generally received as a failure (and 3DO went bankrupt a little after that), the fifth game fixes that mistake. It's also very likely that there will be a HoMM6, a HoMM7 - they didn't yet announce the end of the series, and since there are two more M&M games in production, the HoMM story generally follows that of M&M. But I'll have to agree with the first suggestion. Move it to 'HoMM series', move HoMM1 here and make a short disambiguation at the top - 'This article discusses the 1995 video game. For the series go to...' But well, that's just my two cents. byeee 10:07, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removed list of games

I removed the list of games because the list is already right below in the might and magic template. The Illusional Ministry (talk) 20:20, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
