Henriette Bie Lorentzen

Henriette Bie Lorentzen (1911-2001), born Anna Henriette Wegner Haagaas, was a Norwegian humanist, peace activist, feminist, editor, one of the founders of the Nansen Academy, and resistance fighter in World War II.
In 1943 she was arrested. As a Nacht und Nebel political prisoner, she was sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp. After WWII she founded the journal Kvinnen og tiden together with Kirsten Hansteen, the first Norwegian female member of cabinet.
She was born into a very well educated family, the great-granddaughter of industrialist Benjamin Wegner. Her father was a mathematician and her mother belonged to one of the oldest and most distinguished families of Norway. She was educated a Magister in history of literature.
She received the St. Hallvard Medal in 1995.
