Hemispherios, (pronounced: emisferios), is a weekly radio show from WREK Atlanta 91.1 FM, which is a student-run radio station at Georgia Tech in the main campus located in Atlanta. The show is the first Hispanic specialty show, at WREK, and one of the only Latin Rock shows on the radio in the U.S.
Often overshadowed by other rhythms, Latin Rock emerged in Latin America during the 60’s and 70’s off of the influence of the American and British rock scenes. Ever since, the style has evolved by blending-in with other Hispanic as well as non-Hispanic rhythms such as Salsa, Tango, Jazz and Reggae, to bring delightful tunes into its listeners.[1]
Among its members, Andres Hernandez, who is a Colombian Electrical Engineer is the show's personality who provides insightful trivia, sassy comments, and other Hispanic music related events. Gabriel Serjai, Argentinian by birth, Civil Engineer, is the DJ and main producer of the show; his musical knowledge is recognized by many Hispanic music producers and musicians. He also is in charge of selecting the majority of the music, with its notables like Soda Stereo, Lucybell, Babasonicos, Catupecu Machu, La Vela Puerca, manu chao, cafe tacuba, aterciopelados, Los Amigos Invisibles, Kinky, and other groups that are played on the show. Lastly, Angelo Temponi, who is a Venezuelan native, also an Electrical Engineer who handles all the sports related topics and provides a detailed summary of the soccer world.
This show usually is accompanied with guests who are from different background of Hispanic and non-Hispanic ethnicity, and sometimes the show's foreign correspondents will provide their experiences and ideas by calling into the radio station.
