Heavyweight (MMA)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The heavyweight division in mixed martial arts generally groups fighters between minimum of 206 and maximum 265 lb (93 and 120 kg).
Although many ambiguities exist within the lower weight classes regarding division naming and weight limits, the Heavyweight division is, for the most part, uniform. Both the UFC and PRIDE refer to their 206-265 lb athletes as Heavyweights. Several smaller organizations—such as KOTC, TKO, and the IFL—also abide by this interpretation.
Even though the division is vast in weight admission—competitors can enjoy nearly sixty pounds of leniency—many of the smaller Heavyweights will stay at Heavyweight to avoid strenuous weight cutting. Such Heavyweights include Brandon Vera, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipović and Bas Rutten.
