Reference to Swinburne University of Technology as being an Educational institution within the 4km radius of Hawthorn East should be considered. In addition it is a little biased to refer to Hawthorn East as uniformly affluent or middle-class. There is considerable rental accomodation including Swinburne student accomodation throughout the area adding to a much richer and diverse population than is described.Pauken 07:26, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Had to make some rather major edits as some rather POV stuff and original research about the suburb's status had crept in since I last looked at it. Revised median down sharply as the domain.com.au reference states that the median is $714,500 to April 2007 (it was $700,000 when I checked it in late November) Orderinchaos 12:28, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Upper-middle-class, definitely, affluent, only in parts, if the ABS stats from 2001 are to be believed. Just did a map of the suburb there and the poorest parts are around the intersection of Riversdale and Burke (esp to the SW of that intersection), between Camberwell Road and the railway, and on either side of Camberwell Road, while the most affluent bits are generally in the south of the suburb along Tooronga Road, especially near Bialik College and Anderson Park.
