[edit] POV section on police department

The following was clearly POV:

The recent disbandment of its police department came as as matter of fact due to years of financial mismanagment by Village officials and neglect and abuse of the Village by other politicians and bureaucrats.
The first shameful attempt to rid the Village of it's police department came in 1996. A move spearheaded by then first-term Mayor Wassmer. Despite the use of half-truth, innuendo and propaganda by village officials and others intended to frighten residents and taxpayers the measure was voted down resoundingly.
In the more recent push to rid the village of its department and free up up that poriton of the budget to placate a developer, success was realized by securing the aquiesnce of the Haverstraw Village PBA by means of threatening imminent and substantial layoffs.
The Village taxes did not go down and in fact have still increased while village taxpayers paid for infrastructure improvements to the newly developed waterfront and downtown area. A measure virtually unheard of in New York State.

I hope those from the village of Haverstraw can come up with a more neutral way of expressing this controversy.  :: Salvo (talk) 09:39, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
