The Town of Hartman is a Statutory Town located in Prowers County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 111. The town is located North of C-196. The town has one historic site, the old Hartman Gymnasium. The circa 1938 gymnasium is associated with New Deal programs in Prowers County. The building is the only example of Works Progress Administration construction in Hartman and one of only a few such projects in the county. Its use as a community center continues to contribute to the social history of Hartman.

Hartman was a bustling city of around 5,500 in the 1920's and 1930's. The town was home to a sugar beet factory, a grain cooperative and the railroad ran through the town on the north side connecting to the Co-op and the factory. In the 1940's the town's population began to decline.

Hartman is located at 38°7'12" North, 102°13'13" West (38.119966, -102.220269)[5].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²), of which, 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

As of the census[6] of 2000, there are 111 people, 40 households, and 31 families residing in the town. The population density is 365.6 people per square mile (142.9/km²). There are 50 housing units at an average density of 164.7/sq mi (64.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town is 86.49% White, 0.00% African American, 0.90% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 7.21% from other races, and 5.41% from two or more races. 36.94% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 40 households out of which 42.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.5% are married couples living together, 12.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.5% are non-families. 22.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.23.

In the town the population is spread out with 34.2% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 15.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 105.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $23,750, and the median income for a family is $24,375. Males have a median income of $16,250 versus $25,417 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,816. 42.7% of the population and 32.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 60.5% of those under the age of 18 and 5.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
