Hachette Book Group USA (HBG) is a publishing company owned by Hachette Livre, the largest publishing company in France. Hachette Livre is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lagardère. HBG was formed when Hachette Livre purchased the Time Warner Book Group from Time Warner on March 31, 2006.[1]
Notable authors include David Baldacci, Tucker Carlson, Michael Connelly, Nelson DeMille, Lou Dobbs, Jennie Fields, Robert Kiyosaki, Rick Moody, James Patterson, Ron Paul, Sidney Sheldon, Nicholas Sparks, Jon Stewart and the writers of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, and David Foster Wallace.

The following summarizes the company history published on the Hachette Book Group USA website[1] and other affiliated sites.
In 1837, Little, Brown and Company was founded. Time Inc. acquired Little, Brown and Company in 1968.
Warner Communications acquired the Paperback Library and launched Warner Books in 1970. Later, in 1989, Time Inc. merged with Warner Communications to form Time Warner.
Little, Brown and Company acquired Macdonald & Co. in 1992 and renamed it Little, Brown and Company (UK), and later Time Warner Book Group UK. Then, in 1996, Little, Brown and Company and Warner Books merged to become Time Warner Trade Publishing, which was later renamed to Time Warner Book Group (TWBG).
Since the turn of the century, several new imprints were launched to appeal to specific niche markets. Warner Faith was created in 2001 to appeal to Christian/inspirational readers. In 2004, Center Street launched focusing on the heartland. 2005 saw the launch of two new lines. 5 Spot, an imprint of Warner Books publishing chick-lit that is smart, fun, and filled with attitude, and also LB Kids, an imprint of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.
TWELVE was established in August 2005. Publishing no more than one book per month, TWELVE strives to publish books by authors who have a unique perspective and compelling authority, while seeking to establish communities of conversation surrounding their books.[2]
In 2006, two new imprints were launched: Warner Wellness, an imprint of Warner Books focused on the healing and improvement of mind, body, and spirit, and Springboard Press, a baby boomer generation targeted imprint. The Time Warner Book Group was acquired by Hachette Livre and renamed Hachette Book Group USA. As a result, two imprints were renamed: Warner Faith became FaithWords and Time Warner Audio Books became Hachette Audio.
The renaming of imprints continued in 2007 when Warner Books was renamed to Grand Central Publishing (GCP), Warner Wellness became Wellness Central, and Warner Business Books became Business Plus . 2007 also saw the launch of four new imprints. Yen Press offers graphic novels and manga. Orbit publishes science fiction and fantasy. Poppy, home to the Gossip Girl and other teen fiction series, became an imprint of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. TWELVE became an imprint of GCP.

Under the terms of Hachette Livre's acquisition, HBG is able to use the Warner Books moniker through 2011, although HBG is not itself affiliated with Time Warner. Because of this, HBG announced on March 26, 2007, that Warner Books had been renamed Grand Central Publishing.

Little, Brown and Company was founded in 1837[1] as Charles C. Little and James Brown. Augustus Flagg joined them in 1838 and became managing partner after the deaths of the two founders. The imprint was purchased by Time Inc. in 1968[1], and was made part of the Time Warner Book Group when Time merged with Warner Communications to form Time Warner in 1989. It became an HBG imprint as part of the purchase from Time Warner in 2006.[1]

Orbit Books is a British publisher that specialises in Sci-Fi and Fantasy books. In summer 2006, it was announced that Orbit would expand internationally, with the establishment of Orbit imprints in the United States and Australia. Orbit was founded in 1974 as part of the Macdonald Futura publishing company, which was bought by Little, Brown and Company (see above) in 1992.

Yen Press is the manga and graphic novel division of HBG. In July 2007, it was announced that Yen Press was to absorb ICEkunion, a Korean publisher that had been releasing manhwa to the United States.

Paperback Library was a paperback book publisher established in 1961. In 1970, the company was purchased by Warner Brothers and was soon renamed Warner Paperback Library[1]. It became part of HBG as part of the purchase from Time Warner in 2006.
