Gruppenkommandeur

Gruppenkommandeur is a Luftwaffe (German air force) position that is the equivalent of a commander of a group or wing in other air forces. It is not a rank: a Gruppenkommandeur usually has the rank of Hauptmann or Major, and commands a Gruppe, which is a sub-division of a Geschwader. A Gruppe usually contains a number of Staffeln (squadrons), commanded by a Staffelkapitän.
