[edit] History

The station was instigated by and for the youth of Perth in July, 2002, and was allocated its permanent licence several months later[1]. Initially sharing a frequency with another aspirant broadcaster, the station began 24 hour transmissions after acquiring a full-time broadcasting license on the frequency of 101.7 on the FM band on March 1, 2003. The official radio call sign for the station is 6YMS [2].

Groove FM broadcast to the entire Perth Metropolitan area, delivering programs designed specifically for Perth's youth and student communities. Its programming format encompassed various music genres to meet the diverse tastes of listeners aged between 12 and 26.

The station was member managed and offered a subscription program to encourage members from the community served by the station to offer financial support through sponsorship and to be part of the decision making processes, by election to the Committee of Management and appointment to the Sub-Committees.

The station closed on the 8th of March, 2008 after failed attempts to renew their broadcast license.
