[edit] Proposed merger with Greek Town (East York)

(merger proposed by Amchow78)

  • Agree. The Greek Town (East York) article is not great, and mostly refers to areas that are not even located within the former East York (i.e. the Danforth strip between Broadview and Danforth), and to a festival (Taste of the Danforth) which also does not take place in East York. Frankly, I would just have redirected Greek Town (East York) here. --Skeezix1000 11:00, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Agree - given that they're the same thing, it's hard to imagine why one might oppose. WilyD 16:30, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Objection to narrow definition of "The Danforth"

Locals refer to any address along Danforth Avenue to be "on the Danforth." My take is that "the Danforth" is simply the local name for Danforth Avenue, and has been for a long time. I remember reading some time ago that city council originally had another name for the street, but that locals refused to stop calling it the Danforth, and finally council gave in. In any case, I think it's inaccurate to arbitrarily restrict the definition to such a tiny, though vibrant, section of the road.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.93.203.77 (talk • contribs) .

I agree, with the last sentence at least. The Danforth and Greektown are not the same thing. There either needs to be a separate Danforth article, or this article should become a section of a larger Danforth article. A task for someone. I will take it on if I have time. --Skeezix1000 20:31, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Agree entirely. The area being referred to in the article is solely that centred around Pape and Danforth -- roughly from Chester to Jones. Moreover, "Greektown" is not a name commonly used by locals, in my experience -- and at any rate is much less commonly used than "the Danforth." --Rrburke(talk) 15:46, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Update on "the Danforth"

Anyone up to the task of helping put up the new "the Danforth" entry? I agree with your prior comments about generalizing "the Danforth" as being only about Greektown. It's so much more. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Danforthbia (talkcontribs) 19:58, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
