Talk:Graham Technology

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi Beetstra. Thanks for editing our website and deleting our Plc page, we appreciate it. We realise that we should not use wikipedia as an advertising tool, thus when writing the content we avoided marketing our product and made the content factual. We are in the process of referenceing the awards and other sections of our content to make sure that all necesary points are referenced. If you have any additional advice we would appreciate it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Graham Technology (talk • contribs) 2nd August 2007.

Hi Beetstra, I have referenced at each available point and we have not included any content that is meant to be advertising. Our brand name "ciboodle" is always spelt with a lower case "c" therefore at the beginning of sentences we have kept this small "c". If you could advice us how we can remove the warning bars at th etop of our page which say we are advertising and haven't referenced that would be brilliant, as we have now rectified this issue. Thanks—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Graham Technology (talk • contribs).

No, I disagree, all references are to your own organisation. That is not a proof of notability. References should be to independent, third party sources (see reliable sources guideline and citations guideline). As you do have a conflict of interest, I will wait for someone who knows about the subject to check/copy/edit etc. The tags can be removed afterwards. Hope this explains. --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:19, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

I have referenced with completely impartial sites where possible, unlike some other pages of the same type as ours. For those that have been referenced with our website, I have done so in order to the reader can be directed there and from there find more information and proff that what we have said is true. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Graham Technology (talk • contribs) 3 August 2007.

It looks OK for me now. I will let the decision to remove the tags to an uninvolved editor who knows more about the subject. Thanks for the effort! --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:17, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

We have included more references here for the areas where it was stated they reqruired. Could you let me know when an uninvolved editor may be able to look over the page? Compared to other companies in our industry our page seems to show little sign of advertisement. Thanks again for your advice

Thank you Beetstra, could you advice me as to how we can get rid of the comment boxes at the top of our page? Thanks again —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Graham Technology (talk • contribs) 6 August 2007.

Hello. These tags are likely to remain (particularly the conflict of interest one) until someone else who knows about the subject has worked towards allaying the implicit doubts. Wikipedia editors are all unpaid volunteers, and this may not happen any time soon.
You seem to be quite troubled by these tags. It occurs to me that one way to remove them would be to delete the article. I am not necessarily recommending it; I am merely suggesting a possible course of action in a spirit of helpfulness. If you wish, and you let me know explicitly either on my talk page or this talk page, then I am willing to delete the article (which I can do because I am an administrator). Alternatively, put "{{db-author}}" at the top of the page. You appear to be the article's only substantial contributor (an unregistered editor and I merely did some tidying up), and our speedy deletion policy provides for this. --RobertGtalk 17:35, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
The tags will indeed be removed after uninvolved, established editors have performed some cleanup, or decide the article is good enough. For now I still believe it is not fully neutral, but I do have the feeling the company is important enough to have a wiki article. If you are really troubled, you can indeed ask for deletion via e.g. {{db-author}}.
Just as a remark, the IP that edits resolves to Graham Technology. --Dirk Beetstra T C 18:11, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I object to the deletion of this page on the grounds that Graham Technology is one of the largest independent software firms in Scotland, and has a lot of notable history. As a disclaimer, I am an employee of Graham Technology and I have been guiding the original author of this article to provide purely factual information and plenty of references to reputable external sources. The page still needs work and to be peer reviewed, but at no point have we attempted to mislead - the original author used the username "Graham Technology" to make it perfectly clear where the original content was sourced. The company simply wishes to be represented. Iainmcgin 18:11, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

I know this company, its founders and the contribution it has made to Scottish businesses, charities and educational facilities. It can be difficult to write objectively about a company that you are involved in and care passionately about. If it were acceptable I am willing to write an article on Graham Technology as an independent authority and my location is about four hundred miles away, still in Scotland, but Island based far enough away to be impartial.

I also fell foul of the editing so am very aware of the pitfalls. --Judemacdonald 16:35, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I would be more than happy for you to edit this article Jude, this will hopefully convince the other wikipedia editors that the article has merit. Iainmcgin 19:10, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I have re-written the article and tried to stay as informative as possible. I took a lead from The Sage Group as they are a similar business and reckon the page is not nearly as commercial as that. Snipe...snipe. Well take a look and see what you think, Dirk and Iain all suggestions(ish) and feedback welcome. --Judemacdonald 16:34, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
