[edit] Gradius 2

Gradius 2 on the MSX did not use the roman numeral "II". --Zilog Jones 01:53, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sexy Parodius

Why in the world is there an entry for Sexy Parodius, but none for Gokujyo or Chikkyo? Melodia Chaconne 12:16, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "Destroy the Core!"

Isn't that the moniker of the Gradius series and not "*Shoot* the core!"? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 161.38.223.219 (talk) 16:58, 25 January 2007 (UTC).

- I agree with this. Thats what I remember from playing gradius 2 originally, and I'm playing Gradius Collection on the PSP at the minute. The voiceover says "DESTROY THE CORE" for it's Mechanical bosses, and "SHOOT IT IN THE EYE","SHOOT IT IN THE HEAD!" etc for Organic bosses. I suspect "Shoot The Core" is someone half remembering these, or merging them deliberately into one phrase. I think this is worth correcting. Walter bz 18:30, 10 April 2007 (UTC) Walter_bz

[edit] Page needs to be split

This page really needs to be split up, I dont mind doing it but I just dont want to do it alone. This includes Info boxes w/ arcade info for each one Screenshots for ports

Innovations in gameplay for each (how they changed the formula) Plot summary And any other misc info and trivia

The gradius series is a FAMOUS series, and deserves not to have everything put together in one A series template

--larsinio 20:29, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

- I agree fully. Plus, it would make it easier to go into the differences between the arcade and home release versions. Coolgamer 22:31, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Lord British?

Is "Lord British" perhaps a reference to the creator of/character in the Ultima series of rpgs? Kelvingreen 15:22, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Options"

This article needs to go into detail about what an Option is (at least for the main Gradius series article).

[edit] Gradius Cancelled for Playstation 3

In early January, Konami reported to Famitsu magazine that Gradius and three other Playstation 3 games have been cancelled. I reported this in an update to the information about Gradius for the Playstation 3 on this Gradius page. You can read the official reference about these Playstation 3 cancellations at this IGN website: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/754/754307p1.html Mike mgoblue 23:05, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

- Thankfully, Konami released a statement a few days later denying the cancellation!

[edit] Move

Move Gradius (video game) to Gradius. The first game always gets the main article, and since there isn't even anything there, there's no reason to disambig like this. - A Link to the Past (talk) 05:59, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

I would not move the page. Please look at where Mega Man and Dr. Mario take you. Zelda is also a disambig page, although not titled as one. JmfangioTalk 05:22, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Have you not heard of the person "Zelda Fitzgerald"? And your other examples are terrible. Mega Man refers to a character, a game, and a series, and Dr. Mario refers to a character, a game, and a series. And even if those were examples, who exactly can say "because these articles do this, I can do it too with this article!"? No one. That's as sensible of an argument as "because this article is vandalized, all articles should be". If you can name one single reason why we should have Gradius be nothing but a redirect page, then I'll drop the move. - A Link to the Past (talk) 05:40, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Again, I would not move the page. This was not about the content of Gradius (which should be adjusted), but whether or not this should be moved to that page. You can review WP:NAME for some moreo n the topic. JmfangioTalk 05:53, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
In video game articles, it's standard to give the original video game in a series naming preference over all other games in the series and the series itself. There's no reason to waste an article so it can be a redirect page. You failed to explain why Gradius should be a redirect page, or why it should be a page for the series. The original game is the by-far most well-known usage of the name, and I would say without thinking twice that Gradius with the first game is infinitely more well-known than it was with II, III, IV, or V. - A Link to the Past (talk) 06:03, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
No, it doesn't. There's nothing to show any aspect of the Gradius series being nearly as important as the original game in it - so, voila, the original game gets preference. - A Link to the Past (talk) 16:49, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
  • I appreciate your enthusiasm and passion for this series. However, there is nothing that I can find in wiki documentation that supports your request. While you may not like what is laid out in the examples I showed you, they do establish some precedent. JmfangioTalk 19:59, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
How? How do these examples work? Why in the world does it work to say that because series pages get preference in some instances, that makes it the rule? Put vandalism in place of series, and the statement makes just as much sense. Let me give you some examples.

  • Support The first game in a series should always get the article name (i.e. Castlevania should be the article on the first game in the series), the only exceptions should be the ones pointed out by ALTTP (where both the game/character/series all have the same name, like Mega Man). Chuck Quizmo 23:08, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Can you point to any wiki guidelines or policies that support this move? So far, everything I have seen suggests a disambig page or a "series" page being associated with Gradius. I am not sure what the other editor looked at when discussing book series, but a book series, a movie series, a game series all function similarly. They are all based on the same topic and released over a series of years. That is why the reading is applicable. The examples I pointed to were simply to show how one would create a disambig page for this. I did not say that "because these three did it this way" everything else should be the same. You can also take a look at WP:NC(F) for other guidelines. Jmfangio| ►Chat  23:20, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Support I personally feel that the first game should always get the main (unqualified) article, unless the game is based on something. But this discussion is about Gradius (see WP:Othercrapexists). ~ JohnnyMrNinja {talk} 17:42, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Against I don't like the idea of disambiguation pages in this case, but I don't think "Gradius" should redirect here, rather it should go directly to the series page. It seems logical that if someone is simply searching for "Gradius," they're likely interested in the series as a general subject. 68.209.235.149 (talk) 02:27, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Name?

Is the A in Gradius pronounced like "Aid" or "Atom"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.64.217.18 (talk) 15:51, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

It's the latter. 68.209.235.149 (talk) 15:29, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Info Blanking

I killed the description of the powerups. WP:NOT#GUIDE, WP:NOT#INFO, and WP:CVG/GL#Scope_of_information should sum it up. The description of how the powerup bar works is enough; what each of them does is only relevant if you're playing the game. Ong elvin 04:14, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] グラディウス as a mistransliteration of Gladius

Considering that the Japanese transliteration of Gladius is グラディウス, Gradius" appears to be an obvious case of Engrish. However, I can't validate that the creators chose Gladius in the naming convention. It just seems highly coincidental, considering "Gradius" proper doesn't really mean anything. 68.209.235.149 (talk) 15:42, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

The mistransliteration appears to show up in at least one other Japanese game, Wonder Boy in Monster World. Based on that I think the article should link to Gladius in some way, but I'm not sure where. --DocumentN (talk) 19:59, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Even if it is OR, it seems like a likely origin to me. (Reminds me of Rance being Engrish for Lance) I'd be for its inclusion.--SeizureDog (talk) 20:09, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I don't have any way to verify it. It just remains a hazy possibility. I'm not sure if we can say, "Gradius may possibly be a mistransliteration of the word Gladius" without some kind of citation. It might be reverted per original research. 68.209.235.149 (talk) 22:24, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
