Grandma Winslow

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grandma Mother Estelle Winslow (born 1911) was a supporting character on the long-running African-American sitcom, Family Matters, and she was portrayed by the late Rosetta LeNoire. Estelle Winslow (referred to Mother Winslow by her daughter-in-law, Harriette), is the mother of Police Officer, Carl Winslow, who she gave birth to in 1952, in Chicago, Illinois. Estelle Winslow is claimed to be a voice of reason; and she was also very hip to the latest trends. She also has three grandchildren: Eddie Winslow, Laura Winslow and Judy Winslow, and when her son, Carl, was young, her husband had passed away, leaving herself a widow for many years. She is also the grandmother to Richie (Rachel Crawford's only child). Later on, she became best friends with her neighbor, Steve Urkel. Steve always called her "Estelle, my Belle", which she always loved, and she loved him as much as her own grandchildren. Estelle's actor, LeNoire died of diabetes in 2002, and her death is presumed as well.

[edit] Fletcher Thomas

In 1990, Estelle met Fletcher Thomas (Arnold Johnson), who started to date much to the dismay of Carl. In 1993, during the show's fourth season finale, the episode entitled Mama's Wedding, Fletcher and Estelle were married, and her close friends and family were invited. Fletcher continued to make occasional appearances during the next two years before quietly being dropped from storylines. All three actors who portrayed Fletcher all died (Arnold Johnson in 2000, Whitman Mayo in 2001, along with Ed Cambridge)

[edit] Deck The Halls: Estelle's Last Episode

Like Rachel Crawford and her son, Richie, Estelle made her final appearance in the ninth season episode "Deck the Halls" (aired December 19, 1997).

Estelle is always known for being a kind, sweet, and voice-of reason Grandmother on the show. In the opening credits she is shown to be a fan of Rolling Stone magazine.
