Could we get a screenshot of gOS that doesn't have a "You" photoshopped (er, gimped?) in after the "f" dock icon at the end? --Revaaron (talk) 20:23, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Its not "photoshopped" in, and in theory it could be purely coincidential. The icon to the right of the one with the 'F' is the icon of YouTube, and on a screen with a screen resolution set lower than needed to fit all the icons, the icons will pan as you hoover the mouse pointer over them. If you time it it just right, then you get this effect. I have heard some people claim that the icons were moved in this picture, but that is not true, just compare it with the official web page. I do agree that it is unfortunate, and another picture would be a good idea, or someone can edit the picture to remove the "You", which should not be that hard. P.S. I took the trouble to edit the picture to remove the "You". I used what I had, (Microsoft paint), so its not perfect, but it will do. Note that I also was the uploader of the original picture, but I was not the creator, I got it from the Turkisch wikipedia. [edit] A.O. abbreviation

I recommend against using the abbreviation "a.o" as being unfamiliar to the average reader. I googled for 'define "a.o."' and found nothing useful. Googling for '"a.o." abbreviation' yields "Abbreviation. ao. among(st) others", right after "acronym overload", which is kind of appropriate I suppose, given the list of definitions for AO at http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/ao J4black (talk) 16:59, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

It's a German tradition to put in acronyms like that into common text. The German-language version of "amongst others" would be "unter anderem" and would be abbreviated u. a. (or u. A.; see the link.). This tradition in written language makes it very inconvenient to read general-pupose material in German. -Mardus (talk) 19:48, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Several warning signs here, including the large number of external links, the download links to resources (like an ISO link in the article body), and the use of grandiose prose about how easy it is to install other applications. Should it be gOS (Linux distribution) or comment that article is named GOS (Linux distribution), but due to wikipedia limitation it is impossible to name it such.

Cause I just had to edit a link from list of Ubuntu-base distribution, cause it was linking to GOS (Linux distribution) and not this rocket science. It is just a code name for new version 2.0; and it's not that massive to have seperate articles for both versions yet. Who did this? A user user:Wvoutlaw2002 moved the page to 'Rocket (Linux distribution)'. Which seemed wrong to me as the product is still named gOS. However, at the moment it is still unclear whether 'Rocket' is just the version indicator, like "Edgy" for ubuntu, or that Good OS decided to rename gOS to 'gOS Rocket' to make it more memorable. So I decided to re-move it to 'gOS Rocket (Linux distribution)'.

At the time I did not know how to avoid the first letter to become uppercase, in the past this was unavoidable. But I know learned the trick how to force the first letter to be displayed as lowercase, as you can see. I also took great care to repair all the links, but perhaps I missed 'Ubuntu-base distribution'. It might be necessary to move the page again, if 'Rocket' is indeed just a version indication, in which case i will. Mahjongg (talk) 11:12, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

There is now (mid February 2008) a completely new version of gOS that looks completely different from the first two versions, as it is completely rewritten to use GNOME as it's base instead of E17. I modified the Fair use rationale, and removed the tag, but this is a complicated situation, as the gOS Rocket desktop displays many icons of other software, such as Google, Wikipedia, and Firefox. I hope I have all of these covered. Mahjongg (talk) 23:18, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adding "gOS" to the category "Linux based devices"

I copied this text below from my talk page, as user Kozuch seems bent on adding this article ("GOS (operating system)") which is about a piece of software to a category for devices ( [[Category:Linux based devices]] ), which I think is nonsensical. please add comments if you support or deny my point of view. Dear friend, you are taking categorizing to a pretty extreme. I myself understand categories as something that should also help find content. gOS is related with LBD and therefore I think it could be categorized so. FYI, Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded Edition sits in LBD too.--Kozuch (talk) 10:53, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Sigh, look at the category page itself, and you will notice that gOS would not belong there, its a category of DEVICES not of SOFTWARES, or as the Linux based devices page itself says "Linux based devices or Linux devices are computer appliances that are powered by Linux operating system". So gOS simply does not belong in the category anymore than Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded Edition, which by the way you yourself has put there! It seems no one else seems to have this interpretation of what the category should contain, because lets face it, the category is about appliances, and a appliance is a device, something you can hold in your hand, its NOT the software running on the device. Yes, categories are there to help find content, but this is simply obscuring the valid data there with invalid content. Ill copy this text from my home page to the talk page where it belongs.... I added a new category "Category:Linux distributions used in appliances" specifically for gOS and other operating systems that are used in subnotebooks and netbooks and such. and added gOS to it. I hope that this is the better way to go about, you could add this category page to other categories, to create a structure you can use to find content. I hope this resolves the issue.
