[edit] Private life

Little is known about George's private life. Tasks such as saving the world and quirk remarks are seen as more important than various relations - mainly Nico Collard. He is a law graduate, which he studied at either the University of California or the University of Idaho. He has worked in California, at his Father's law firm, and New York City, as a bail bondsman. He is an only child, and his father passed away between the first two games (2000-2002?).

[edit] Personality

George is a friendly, positive individual who always tries to see the good in any situation. Good natured and honest, George could also be called quite nosy, but working for the law, he does have a high sense of justice. Its this aspect of his character that drives him to unconver the events of Broken Sword, which begin with the death of an old man (Plantard). He will talk to anyone and will press matters until there is nothing left to press. This can and will get him into trouble on many an occasion, but unlike many other heroes George chooses to use his wits and his mouth to get him out of trouble, rather than his fists. A comment George will most commonly hear on his travels is the term "Get out of there" to which George often finds himself replying "I can explain everything". George is also able to read Latin and is blessed with a "memory like a steel trap." He has a love of Pirates and a strong dislike of clowns and mimes. In his adventures he has impersonated a Police Detective (earning himself the nick-name Sewer Jacques) has impersonated a Doctor, has played the role of a stuntman, has been knocked unconscious by a large wooden salmon and journed all over the world to many different countries, being arrested at least twice and has nearly been killed at least 12 times. A fact he's not afraid to point out.

[edit] Beliefs

Despite George’s many experiences with the supernatural, magical and occult, George is still very skeptical about a lot of what he witnesses, although contrary to popular belief he is a theist, not an atheist. His lack of out and out belief however causes much distaste from his uncle who was a Christian priest. George has a very sarcastic outlook on life, with a dry wit and casual approach to things around him. This does serve him well in a crisis though as he can think fast and doesn't panic.

[edit] Appearances

[edit] The Shadow of the Templars

When George first appeared in The Shadow of the Templars, he was an average, friendly, and somewhat nosy man, who was currently taking a vacation in Paris. When a bomb explodes in the cafe that George is at, it's up to him to uncover the mysteries surrounding the bombings, learn the truth behind The Knights Templar, and travel around the globe.

It is at this time that George falls in love with Nico Collard, the French Photo-journalist, who lives in a small apartment, which serves as a hub for George and Nico in The Shadow of the Templars. In travelling around the world George meets a number of unique and interesting characters, some friendly, others odd and some deadly.

[edit] The Smoking Mirror

At the beginning of Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror, George Stobbart has recently returned from the tending to his dying father, back to Paris where he and Nico are thrown into yet another adventure. The game opens as George and Nico are attacked by Pablo, a large Mayan man. George is tied to a chair, and Nico is captured, and it's up to George once again to save the world from an inevitable doom.

George travels to a new, if not more remote, set of locations, like an unnamed jungle, the mysterious Zombie Island, and the small Central American town, Quaramonte.

[edit] The Sleeping Dragon

The Sleeping Dragon begins years after George and Nico have broken up, and George has moved on with his job as a Patent Lawyer. The game opens when George's private plane crashes in the middle of the Congo, and George is forced to climb a cliff to reach his destination. When he does however, the man he intended to interview is dead, and George is once again thrown into another adventure, and re-unite with his old rivals, the Neo-Templars.

This marks the first episode in the Broken Sword series where George is rendered in full 3d, which gives George some new physical power and tricks. George can now climb walls, jump ledges, run, hang off cliffs, and more.

[edit] The Angel of Death

At the start of the The Angel of Death, George is working as a bail bonds clerk and Nico is no longer a part of George's life. When George meets with Anna-Maria, a woman who hires George to help her to find a mysterious artifact, George is thrown into another adventure, and can't help but fall in love with this strange woman.

[edit] Relationships

George's on/off lover is the French freelance photo-journalist Nico Collard, who was introduced in the first game. Their relationship could be judged 'failed', caused by George being sarcastic and passive, and Nico being too focused on her job. His new love from the 4th part of Broken Sword was Anna Maria, who George met when she needed some help with a manuscript. George doesn't have any luck with his current love life.

George's social-nemesis is André Lobineau, a French history-scholar whom Nico has known since college and who (at least in the first two games) considers himself a competitor for Nico's affections. André runs an online history database, which George is blocked from viewing.

George has made several acquaintances in different countries. This includes Pearl and Duane Henderson, who regularly travel (Duane a supposedly undercover Agent for unknown government department/agency) and the heavily-drinking gendarme (later ex-gendarme) who George meets twice at the Café at Montfaucon.

George's enemies include the Neo-Templars, a secret organization following in the footsteps of the Knights Templar, Tezcatlipoca and recently certain sections of the Roman Catholic church.
