Galanz (Galanz Enterprise Group Co. of Guangdong) (Chinese: 格兰仕; pinyin: Gélánshì) is a Chinese company and the largest producer of microwave ovens in the world. It is based in Shunde, Guandong (China). Founded in 1978 by Liang Qingde, Galanz was originally a company that dealt in the trading in duck feathers. In 1993, Galanz made a deal with Toshiba for a limited license on microwave oven technology. Production started slowly with only ten thousand microwaves produced the first year, but expanded rapidly after that. Currently, Galanz produces over 15 million microwave ovens a year which is about 40% of the world market and has 600 patents in microwave oven technology.[citation needed] In addition to microwave ovens, the company has recently begun producing air conditioners.
