[edit] Materia Usage in other titles
Interestingly, the size of materia has changed since its inception in the original game... The reason (if any) for this apparent discrepancy is unclear.
^^^I have a problem with the statements in that paragraph because I think there is a reason for difference in materia sizes. When playing FF7 materia grows. For example Cloud's apocalypse sword has "triple growth" for materia. When you master a materia it's grown as much as it could. Since the materia seen in Advent Children was the materia they used in the game, I think it can be assumed that the materia is larger because it is all mastered or close to being mastered.
I'm fairly certain that is not the case. The 'slots' in the weapons surely did not physically increase in size, so the materia must have not either. Growth can mean other things besides anything physical. In fact, I suppose they grow in a similar way to the planet itself. The lifestream grows when the memories and experiences of the dead souls are re-integrated into itself. The AP gained during battles could, like EXP, represent the actual experience gained in the battle. That being said, the paragraph about how materia level up in the original game engine should probably be moved out of the usage in other titles section, as it does not represent materia usage in other titles.
By the way, picture one of those larger materia in the slots on the buster sword... assuming the slots were large enough... that would look incredibly ridiculous. 71.120.201.39 19:42, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Rewrote section: White Materia
Previous version:
--- The White materia can summon Holy to protect the Planet. White Materia destroys anything bad for the planet, which may be another reason for the Geostigma virus infecting people. Jenova itself was not completely destroyed by Holy, which is why Geostigma is effecting people. The white materia can only be used by certain people, and when it is working, it glows faint green. ---
Geostigma doesn't have anything to do with FF7 in the strictest sense - it's an Advent Children plot device. I do think that Advent Children should be mentioned somewhere in the FF7 page, but using AC plot devices to describe FF7's plot devices is backwards and possibly confusing to anyone playing through the game for the first time ("Where's the geostigma?"). Rewritten to eliminate post-FF7 developments and to describe in fuller detail White Materia's function in the game and emphasize that it is not a 'normal', equippable materia.

[edit] Added section: Materia combos
Materia combos
The Materia system in Final Fantasy VII leaves room for much experimentation, once the player has accumulated enough diverse types of materia. The Mime materia (a Command materia that mimics the last action taken by the party) in particular is easy to exploit, making such feats as defeating the Emerald WEAPON in one turn possible and arguably "breaking" (removing a substantial amount of challenge from) the game. In this example, the materia combo is Mime + Counter, but the combination must be repeated 8 times (i.e., the Mime and Counter materias must be Mastered until 8 copies of each exist, and then paired 8 times, such as with a character's final weapon and the Wizard Bracelet armor) before using a prepared Omnislash on the first turn of the battle. The first attack from Emerald will trigger eight more Omnislashes, killing the Weapon before it has a chance to attack again. Many such combos exist and can be exploited, though few are as blatantly powerful as the example listed above. TKarrde 17:55, 2 January 2006 (UTC) (got myself an account!)
[edit] FFVII Wiki Cleanup
The long and short of what I'm saying here is that Wikipedia looks like a Final Fantasy fansite. Cloud's page looks like a biography, Advent Children's looks like the reports that came out of Venice when the film was first screened there, just yesterday I had to merge Ultima Weapon with Weapons, and then we've got a plethora of unnecessary random pages.
Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X are the worst about the whole thing. Head over to the Final Fantasy X Talk Page to see what I'm talking about in regards to it.
Final Fantasy VII's problem is that some pages are down right unnecessary. Until recently, there was even a page for the damn Sister Ray. Here's what needs to be addressed:
- Midgar (there's nothing that warrants it not being in the List of Final Fantasy VII Locations page; there's hardly so much to say about it that a general interest venue can't keep it sounding interesting without writing about everything from its newspapers to its schools).
- Materia (crystalized form of Mako; same attributes apply to both).
- Mako (condensed form of Lifestream which can crystalize into Materia; same attributes apply to both).
This is what I propose:
- Midgar is merged with List of Final Fantasy VII Locations.
- Materia is merged into Mako (as Lifestream was).
There's no reason for all this stuff to be scattered across Wikipedia when it can conveniently and reasonably fit on shared pages. Thoughts? (Please direct all comments on this matter to the Final Fantasy VII Talk Page) Ryu Kaze 09:23, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mako Section Added
Seeing as how there's been no objections to the idea of merging Materia with Mako -- and actually three cases of support for it -- I'm going to go through with it now. The Materia page will be the one to remain.
By the way, I've also clarified various points and corrected various mistakes from the original Mako article's sections, as well as some information in the Materia sections themselves. Ryu Kaze 13:07, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Full Materia Information
I added the proper amount of the Materia Names as well as what they do. Why? Well this is an online Encyclopedia, so I figured people needed as much in-depth coverage as possible. I put this here because many off-sites can be quite misleading, so I nominate it stays. If you have any suggestions on where the Full Materia information should go, state it here and state it properly. Until then, everytime it's reverted, I'll revert it back. [edit] Other Mako
Being that makou/lifestream has its own tiny section on this page, shouldn't we add information on the Negative Lifestream (not sure if that is a fan term btw) seen in Advent Children and the Stagnant/Tainted Mako from Dirge of Cerberus. I don't know enough about the stagnant mako/lifestream to add it myself. Maybe someone with the game could. 71.120.201.39 19:27, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Is this information ever going to be added? Sephiroth's "negative lifestream" is a one-time thing that only even existed for a brief moment in time and really not all that important in the whole of FFVII history, but the stagnant/tainted makou has presumeably has always existed. It's a natural part of the lifestream and an important part of the cycle IMO and should be included. 71.120.201.39 14:43, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Gaia
Where in Final Fantasy VII was the planet called Gaia? Ryu Ematsu
- Talk:Final Fantasy VII/archive 4#Gaia? Kariteh 19:22, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
It was at no point called Gaia in FFVII, which is why I think the name of the article should be considered for revision, unless someone can proove that Nomura at some point stated that the FFVII world was indeed called Gaia. 212.219.254.158 (talk) 16:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- It was retroactively named "Gaia" in an E3 handout, as explained in "Concept and creation". Nomura's input on this matter is not relevant because he was not involved in scenario writing for FFVII. Axem Titanium (talk) 21:37, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
I've also been confused about this, I know if it was named Gaia in a square-enix handout, at E3 especially, then it can't be argued with that much. However I don't see how Nomura plays no relevance to the matter when he DID come up with the original scenario concept. HarukoBass (talk) 22:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- The scenario writer for FFVII was Kazushige Nojima. Nomura's only scenario credits are for Kingdom Hearts. Axem Titanium (talk) 02:48, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
The planet is called "Gaia" in the E3 handout as mentioned previously, but it is also confirmed on the Dirge of Cerberus official website (it is the answer to one of the FF7 Hangman quiz questions "What is the name of the planet?" or something like that). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.205.196.133 (talk) 20:46, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] World map
Can someone add a world map to this article. I think it would be a perfect addition to it. I don't know how to put up pictures... =( its complicated -ScotchMB 03:44, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Reception and legacy
since we have an arrogant admin that is refusing to let me delete this, lets see what everybody else says. reception and legacy section. its a stub with absolutely nothing in it. ok, it might encourage people to add stuff to it, but if they want to add stuff to it, surely they wouldnt need any encouragement. anybody else agree with me removing this?
and just as a note, an ip ban wont work against me...
87.127.161.98 19:25, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- The section is there to remind ourselves to add to it. Reception and legacy is an important part of WP:WAF that needs to be addressed to justify the article's existence. Of course, the whole idea is to encourage people to add to it. Axem Titanium 20:19, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- Of course, wouldn't that be under the Final Fantasy VII page and NOT the page about the planet that FF7 occurs on? 209.77.79.7 17:39, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- Of course not. These sections are meant to be dealing with Gaia, the fictional planet, and NOT the video game. See World of Final Fantasy VIII to read a similar example of this difference. Kariteh 18:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ultima(te) Weapon
What's the deal with changing Ultima Weapon into Ultimate Weapon? It was definitely Ultima Weapon in FF7, but I've not played any of the later spin-off games, so I've not seen it referred to as anything else in those. -masa ♫ 21:10, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ultima Weapon was the name of Cloud's most powerful sword in the game. Ultimate WEAPON was the name the creature or WEAPON of which you obtain it. --Ryu-chan (Talk | Contributions) 01:51, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Corel = Desertprison ?!
Hello, anybody got a source for that information stated in the text? I highly doubt it, as there is no reference in the game as far as I know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.179.58.134 (talk) 15:52, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
What are you disputing? It's visually obvious that the Desert Prison was once South Corel. The layout and buildings are exactly the same as they were in Barret's flashback. 68.152.95.130 21:07, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New village or villages in Crisis Core
So are there any? Some screens seem to indicate at least one new village. And there is talk about a place called "Modeoheim." So how about it? Is any of it true? 18:25, 29 September, 2007
Yes, there are two new villages so far shown in Crisis Core. One is Banora Village, and the other is Modeohiem.--Notorious MOG 21:06, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] In-universe style
I think the in-universe tag has been used too liberally in this context. No one in their right mind (who is not a grade schooler, at least) could actually believe this article to be talking about a real world. The "in-universe" style is appropriate for the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tcaudilllg (talk • contribs) 23:34, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Concept and creation
Maybe someone could add something about 'Sin' to this section.
At the beginning of the game when Cloud's getting money from Barrett in the hideout under the bar it says something about 'SIN' on the TV Screen. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.158.222.178 (talk) 13:53, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
I hope you're not trying to suggest that it was any reference to the 'Sin' of FFX...212.219.254.158 (talk) 09:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Minerva needs more recognition!
I apologize for bringing up such a poor argument, but Minerva is apparently the goddess of Gaia. There is no mention of her on here, even though she is basically a huge contribution to the lifestream itself.
[edit] Junon Cannon
The article states that at one point midgar was under threat from destruction by the Junon Cannon, seized by AVALANCHE. How is this possible though since the Junon Cannon points in the opposite direction to Midgar and cannot be turned that far around? 213.121.151.174 (talk) 16:01, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Forgotten City FFVII.jpg
Image:Forgotten City FFVII.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] New title
Is that "VII" necessary in the title or could it be just (Final Fantasy)? --Mika1h (talk) 00:30, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- Gaia also appeared in other FF games (ex. FFIX). Axem Titanium (talk) 18:44, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
But the 'gaia' referenced in other games is not (necessarily) identical to the gaia of FF7. Additionally, the article is entirely focused on the FF7 universe.82.18.30.66 (talk) 12:57, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Reception and Legacy
Deleted. Not only is it empty, but according to the discussion page, it's been empty since at least May 2007. If you need somewhere to write a note to tell you to finish a section, may I suggest you make a todo list on your userpage or some place other than the article. Sticking an empty section in the article for near a year is downright unnecessary. Kinsloft (talk) 23:32, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Merge to Final Fantasy VII#Setting
See Talk:Final Fantasy XI#Vana'diel. FightingStreet (talk) 17:27, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I don't agree. I'm sure a lot of real-world content is available, as FFVII is arguably the most popular game in the FF series. The Prince (talk) 19:40, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I disagree. The article has references and citations. Needs a cleanup only. — Blue。 07:18, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- I would like the article to establish some notability, because if it didn't have "Final Fantasy" in its name, it would have been deleted already as a huge chunk of fancruft in its present form. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:14, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- This merge would make the page extremely long. I have to disagree. -150.108.232.33 (talk) 15:44, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Incomplete Materia information
I was wondering if there's a reason the other Materia aren't listed (Magic, Independent, etc...)
If there is a reason, kindly let me know. If not, I'll gladly add to the section.
[edit] Mako Poisoning
I deleted the following lines from "mako poisoning":
The Mako energy seen swirling around Materia is like the blue glow that comes off plutonium during a Criticality accident, and from the ionic discharge of a cyclotron or particle accelerator. It's toxic effects, and use for energy production, suggest that Materia could be a radioactive isotope with magical powers.
I think they're quite nonsense, because they feel like FFVII was "real", to me. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry! 87.24.15.6 (talk) 19:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Gaia?
I've played through FF7, and the sequels/prequels, and I still have no idea where the term "Gaia" to name the planet is used. Anyone know? --ILHI (talk) 20:14, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
