[edit] just a stub

I'm going to leav it a few days as a stub because there might already exist a page on him under a slightly different tittle. Dejvid 29 June 2005 10:50 (UTC)

[edit] Frontispiece

I suppose if you can find the original, which I believe is out of print it will have the indicated cover illustration. The edition currently in print in softcover (Cornell University Press) is simply black text on red. Lycurgus 21:55, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

I don't know if "frontispiece" means something different in US English(?) My understanding of the word frontispiece is a picture just inside the front cover, before the main text, which is where the picture appeared in the Duckworth & Co edition. I note that Cornell published it simultaneously (1981 or 1982 according to some web sources) in North America, and that edition may well be different. Grant | Talk 02:20, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Law degree

I don't think he did have a law degree. I think he practised law without a degree. None of the obituaries mention a law degree and his entry in Debrett's People of Today says Educ UCL (BA), Univ of Oxford (DLitt, MA). The BA was his ancient history degree, the MA was by decree/special resolution (not sure if there's a difference) when he became a member of Congregation, and the DLitt was obviously for his published work.--Oxonian2006 (talk) 21:06, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
