From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

FXP is the ticker symbol for the ULTRASHORT FTSE/XINHUA CHINA 25 Exchange-traded fund from ProShares. It was introduced on November 8, 2007.

FXP, and its counterpart EWV for the Japan stock exchange, are double leveraged, meaning that they are engineered to deliver twice the inverse of the daily performance of the FXI and EWJ, respectively.

FXP is supposed to track 1/FXI^2. As you can see from the following chart it has lost 5% of its theoretical value since its inception within 1 month. (Closing prices for FXI and FXP provided by finance.yahoo.com)
