Perhaps there should be an electronics or products related future tag to seperate that from the events? — Ilγαηερ (Tαlκ) 03:56, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Broken alphabetization
This template, when placed on an article, seems to always place the article under the P heading in Category:Future events. From what I can tell by looking at the template's code, it is trying to pass a parameter of PAGENAME, but it looks like this isn't working. Could someone with more template experience look at this? - Well, I gave it a shot anyway. This script clearly shows the sortkeys are "PAGENAME". I tried to update it to something that I thought would work, but it doesn't seem to, even with {{purge}}. I do remember that Cryptic said that for this to work, it might be necessary to subst: the {{future}} template on individual pages, which may not be optimal either. --Interiot 00:48, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Year 2058 is in the future!
I just removed this tag from a lot of year articles where it basically used up a quarter of my screen to inform me that year 2057 is in the future and that things may change as the "event approaches and more information becomes available". Can we please read what these boxes say before we blindly put them on pages where all they do is make Wikipedia look like it's written by complete and utter morons?? Or does anyone really believe that the box is informative and tells the reader, any reader, anything he didn't know? I've seen many misplaced tags and boxes on Wikipedia, but those tags have to be the silliest I've ever come across. It's too boring to remove all of them by hand, so such rapidly approaching events as the 23rd century is still tagged as being in the future with all the disclaimers about such a surprising fact included. It will be interesting to see how long it stays. Shanes 19:18, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Appropriate use
Is the use of this template on mythological events that will only happen according to a particular pov appropriate? I cite for example the recent addition of this template to Rapture. -- Roleplayer 10:47, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Documentation subpage
{{editprotected}}
Please change the code so that the documentation is transcluded from the documentation subbage (Template:Future/doc). Replace the content between the noinclude tags with {{documentation}}. Thanks! --Kildor (talk) 08:49, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Done. Thanks for already having created the /doc subpage. --David Göthberg (talk) 12:20, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Too many {{future}} tags
This template is used on way too many articles. It is against the spirit of Wikipedia:No disclaimers in articles and does not add any information that the reader does not already know. In most cases, the name or the lead of the article or section makes it perfectly clear that the described event is in the future. And the template should really not be used if the event is well-documented and is likely to occur.
I have removed several instances of this template, and very few have been re-added. It seems like many editors believe that this template must be used as soon as there is anything about the future in the article. This is of course not true. If so, the tag would appear on a huge number of articles.
Articles on uncertain events or articles based on speculations should be tagged with {{crystal}} instead. --Kildor (talk) 10:21, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
