Wikipedia:Current and future event templates
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Current and future event templates are designed to indicate that an article or a section is describing a current or future event, and to warn readers about the fast-changing or speculative nature of the article.
[edit] Current events
The main current event template is {{current}}. It adds the article into Category:Current events:
This ยต documents a current event. Information may change rapidly as the event progresses.
The current event template is merely used to warn the editor or reader about the great flux of edits and the fast-changing state of the article, due to the fact that current events tend to get the most attention from editors. Current events templates should always be placed at the top of the article.
The template should be removed from the article when the event described is no longer featured in the news headlines.
[edit] Future events
The main future event template is {{future}}: It adds the article into Category:Future events:
This article or section contains information about scheduled or expected future events. It may contain tentative information; the content may change as the event approaches and more information becomes available.
The future event template is merely used to warn the reader about the speculative nature of the article, and that information may change dramatically as the event approaches and more information becomes available.
The template should be removed from the article when the event is well-documented and the context makes it clear to the reader that the information is about an upcoming event. Do not use this template in articles that are clearly about the future, such as the article about the 29th century. The template provides in such cases no information that the reader does not already know.
Remember that Wikipedia is not a crystal ball: Wikipedia is not a collection of unverifiable speculation. All articles about future events must be verifiable, and the subject matter must be of sufficiently wide interest that it would merit an article if the event had already occurred.
Consider using the {{crystal}} template for articles that may violate WP:CRYSTAL:
This article or section contains predictions, speculative material or accounts of events that might not occur. Please help improve this article or section by removing speculative content.
