Template talk:Future election candidate

[edit] Purpose ?
Wondering what the purpose of this template is? By definition this template has to be included on top of the pages for most of the US Senators and the members of the House of Representatives. If not it would misrepresent some articles in favor of another.
I also think this template gives undue importance to just one aspect of a person. Consider a page, like Rudy Giuliani, which displays this template prominently. He has had an illustrious career as an US Attorney and a Mayor in addition to being a candidate in 2008 election. I don’t see any reason for a big banner at top of the page screaming “Hey, he is running in a future election”.
It is my opinion that this template should be removed. Lets discuss it here a bit before starting on the TFD process. --DuKot 22:23, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that its use on Rudy Giuliani is awkward, but maybe it just belongs in sections rather than at the top of the article, as seen at Sam Brownback and Barack Obama (possibly others as well). I don't think I'd recommend it for TfD, but I would like to draw attention to the disparity between its use here and its absence here. -Tobogganoggin talk 00:01, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] This template should be nominated for deletion
I don't understand what the point of this template is. It looks like it is trying to warn people that the content of the article may change dramatically during the campaign and over the course of the election. But non-editor Wikipedia readers who are looking for information about a candidate care about what the content of the article is now -- not what it is going to be tomorrow or next week. And Wikipedia editors don't need to be warned that the article might change; they might change the article themselves, hopefully because the candidate has done something worthy of being placed in the article. Unless someone can come up with a good reason to keep this template, I will nominate it for deletion.
By the way, the {{WPBiography}} template, to be used on a subject's talk page, has an "activepol" switch which adds a message saying:
This page is about an active politician who is running for office, is in office and campaigning for re-election, or is involved in some political conflict or controversy.
Because of this, this article is at risk of biased editing, talk-page trolling, and simple vandalism.
This seems more useful because it warns editors to watch for problems within the article rather than warning people in general to watch for changes. --Metropolitan90 01:50, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
