The Free State of Brunswick (German: Freistaat Braunschweig) was a republic formed after the abolition of the Duchy of Brunswick at the end of World War I. It was a member state of Germany during the time of the Weimar Republic.

In 1946, the Free State of Brunswick broken up as part of the Allied administration of Germany. The majority of Brunswick became part of the newly founded state (Land) of Lower Saxony under British administration while some small parts (mainly around Blankenburg am Harz) became part of Soviet-administered Saxony-Anhalt.
