Frédéric Piquionne (born December 8, 1978 in Nouméa, New Caledonia) is a French football player who plays in the forward position, currently for AS Saint-Étienne in France.

This "International Espoir" previously played for Golden Star (division of honor in Martinique), Nîmes Olympique (second division, 2000-2001) and Rennes (first division, 2001-2004).

He is 1.88m tall, weighs 77kg and wears the number 9 shirt. His qualities are his speed, and technique, but positioning, heading and tactical sense are his weak points. [citation needed]

In total, he has played 138 matches in the first division and scored 33 goals. This season, he played 17 matches as a holder and 1 as a substitute, scored 6 goals, was on the park for a period of 1407 minutes, and had 1 booking.

[edit] Career

Regarding his career, Frédéric Piquionne used to play in the suburbs of Paris, at Charenton and Paris FC, then he went to Martinique and joined the Metropolitan France in 2000 at Nîmes Olympique, where he played a few matches in the second division.

He was soon spotted by Rennes. The first time he played in the French first division was the 28th of July 2001 in the match Rennes-Auxerres (0-5). In his first season in the first division, Piqionne scored 3 goals in 20 matches. In his second season (2002-2003), he scored 10 goals under the coaching of Vahid Halilhodzic. But a new coach, Laszlo Bölöni, arrived, and the rapport between them wasn't good, and nor with his fellow-team-member Alexander Frei. So the season 2003-2004 wasn't a good one for him.

When Saint-Etienne were interested in him, he didn't have any hesitation and accepted the chance to play for this new team. He has been there for two years and now, he is well liked by the coach Elie Baup, the other players, and the supporters.
